A Digicam is a Camera that can take still
photographs or video, or both digitally by recording images in an
electronic image sensor. The digital cameras are very similar to
conventional cameras in their operation; the major difference is in
the image pickup device which is electrical in the case of digicams
and chemical in the case of film cameras. The popularity of the
digital camera has expanded greatly and today, digital cameras are
found to be selling more than their conventional film
counterparts.
There are many advantages of digital cameras over conventional film
cameras. In digital cameras it is possible to immediately see the
images once they are recorded. Since you can instantly view the
pictures in a digital camera, you can make sure that the pictures
you take come out right. This is not the case with film cameras
where you have to wait till you develop the film to see if you have
taken are perfect. The images can be viewed, stored and deleted
with the help of a small memory device, the commonly used memory
being the memory card. Since you can delete unwanted pictures,
digital cameras eliminate the risk of wasting expensive film.
Digital Cameras also have provisions for easy elementary image
editing options such as cropping, which enables you to do the basic
editing immediately after the picture is taken.
Digital cameras offer more durability and reliability than
conventional film cameras. These cameras are inherently flexible
and come with a number of automatic settings and pre-set modes that
adjust the various values according to your desire for different
scenarios. Though some experts still argue over the quality of
pictures produced by digital cameras, digital cameras can produce
really rich, sharp and warm images of superior quality, if not
better than film cameras. Also being easier to operate under
various situations, digital cameras can actually provide finer
quality pictures, more so than film cameras in many situations.
